The College of Arts, Sciences, and Education (CASE) at Texas A&M University-Texarkana is currently seeking an outstanding candidate at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank in Biology to coordinate the BS Biology degree at the new RELLIS campus of the A&M System. The faculty member will be part of the A&M-Texarkana Biology department, but will be based at the RELLIS campus in Bryan, TX.

The position will start from Fall 2018. The successful candidate should possess an excellent record in teaching, scholarship, and service, and will be expected to foster the growth of a first-rate Biology courses, including building on existing strengths within the College and through collaboration with other faculty in CASE. The candidate will also be responsible for addressing student needs in Biology, including academic advising, and assisting the Dean and Biological Sciences Chair with the implementation of short and long-term goals of the College. This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position.

General responsibilities of the RELLIS biology coordinator will include working with the A&M-Texarkana Biology department, coordinating teaching schedules, designing and revising curriculum, resolving conflicts, hiring adjunct instructors, teaching three courses per term, supervising undergraduate research, local inventory control and ordering.

Teaching Duties: 75%

Teach up to three courses per academic semester, including respective laboratories, and up to two courses in the summer in credentialed area(s)

Assist with developing programs in Biology and provide input for programmatic changes, including contributions to curriculum and course development .

Administrative Duties: 25%

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Biology and coordinate with other Departments and Programs to deliver Biology outcomes related to curricular and student needs and to the strategic priorities of the College.

Teach up to three courses per academic semester, including respective laboratories, and up to two courses in the summer in credentialed area(s)

Foster interdisciplinary initiatives that broaden the interests and research of students participating in Biology courses.

Advise students in the Biology program and supervise student projects and research activities.

Engage with external communities and professional bodies to further the strategic interests and strengths of Biology and the College.

Engage in innovative projects focused on enhancing the academic, operational and economic effectiveness of the College and faculty, including external research funding initiatives and published scholarly work.

Work with the chair of the Biological Sciences department and the Dean of CASE to represent the department and College at various meetings, recruitment events, conferences, and University functions as necessary.

Perform appropriate level of service nationally and/or regionally and within the university, including serving on committees assigned by the coordinator of department and the Dean of CASE.

Perform other site and position specific responsibilities as assigned by the department and the Dean.

Be collaborative, and be able to manage and resolve conflict.

Schedule classes and assist the Dean in hiring adjunct instructors as necessary to deliver the Biology program at RELLIS.

Monitor and develop curriculum in conjunction with the goals of the College and Department.

Complete reports as necessary for program assessment.

Maintain equipment, inventory control and ordering for the RELLIS site.

Further, we seek an individual who has a leadership style that supports the diversity of department community members, creating a department climate that embraces the values of inclusion so that all members are heard, valued, and respected, and in which all community members can thrive.

Hiring adjunct faculty as necessary to deliver the courses as planned.

Schedule courses and book rooms as necessary to deliver the Biology content.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related subject.

Two years of related teaching experience in a higher education setting.

Ability to identify, assesses, and solve problems that arise from managing students and personnel.

Ability to plan, organize, multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.

Work outside normal office hours and/or work on weekends.

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

Ph.D. in Biology or related field.

3 or more years of teaching experience in an undergraduate or graduate setting.

Evidence of excellent teaching both lectures and lab courses in a higher education setting.

Administrative or organizational experience in a higher education setting.

Active research program in some area of biology adaptable to an undergraduate setting, ideally with evidence of publications with undergraduate student authors.

Experience and/or ability to teach in all or most of the following academic areas:
